PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for monitoring a plant through a communication network are provided to monitor the equipment operation situation and purified situation of a spot and remotely control an automation equipment by gathering operation situations and monitoring images of the operating automation equipment in the spot and providing the gathered operation situations and monitoring images in real time. CONSTITUTION: A plant terminal(15) is prepared in a spot for receiving situation information of a real-time processing device(11) installed in a plant and image information through an image input device(13), analyzing received situation information and image information, and transmitting the analyzed result. A monitoring unit(20) has a user terminal(21b) for receiving operation situation information and image information in real time through the plant terminal(15) and performing a remote operation of the real-time processing device(11). A server(30) has a data storing device(31) for storing data in which the state of the plant is grasped on the basis of recognition data gathered through the plant terminal(15). The server(30) has a processing device(33) for analyzing a request message inputted from the plant terminal(15) or the user terminal(21b), generating information according to a request type, and outputting the processed result to the plant terminal(15) or the user terminal(21b) using information stored in the data storing device(31).
