PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballast for safely and surely lighting a lamp. SOLUTION: A ballast side circuit 21 comprises a transformer 25 connected through a breaker 24 to a generator 16; a capacitor 26 connected in series to a power supply line; and a resistor 27 connected in parallel to the capacitor 26. A quick re-lighting circuit 32 comprises a timer circuit 28 which turns on a switch only during a given time when power source voltage is applied from the ballast side circuit 21; a relay 29 which is powered on by this timer circuit 28; a high pressure pulse generating circuit 30 for generating a high pressure pulse for lighting a lamp 14 when this relay 29 is on; and a lamp voltage detecting circuit 31 for turning off the relay 29 by detecting the lighting voltage of the lamp voltage when the relay 29 is on. |
