PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select an optimum warm-up time depending on a connected printer connected to a color scanner by automatically discriminating whether the color printer is a color printer or a black/white printer and selecting a color warm-up or black/white warm-up according to the discriminated printer. SOLUTION: When the color scanner discriminates a black/white printer through communication after application of power to the color scanner, the color scanner executes the first warm-up and CCD adjustment so as to attain black/white reading. When the color scanning discriminates a color printer, the color scanner executes the second warm-up and CCD adjustment succeedingly.
