A remedial agent for cancer which is reduced in side effects, is potent, and induces apoptosis in cancer cells having resistance to conventional carcinostatic agents. It contains as an active ingredient a stilbene tetramer compound having a structure represented by the chemical formula (1) or a stilbene trimer compound having a structure represented by the chemical formula (2). (1) (R is hydrogen, methyl, or acetyl; and C1 and C2 may be replaced with each other and D1 and D2 may be replaced with each other.) (2) (R is hydrogen, methyl, or acetyl.)
