PURPOSE: One dimensional optical modulator and a projector using the same are provided to separate ±1 light from zero light within a relatively short time by increasing a diffraction angle of one dimensional optical modulator. CONSTITUTION: A nonlinear material(10) has a polarized area. Incident and output surfaces of a light of the nonlinear material(10) have the same side. A voltage is applied to an electrode(20). A dielectric substance(30) is located between the electrode(20) and the nonlinear material(10) an electric field is applied to a direction parallel with a polarity of the nonlinear material(10). A reflecting surface(40) is located to face to an incident surface of a light of the nonlinear material(10) so that the incident surface of a light of the nonlinear material(10) is identical with an output surface of a light of the nonlinear material(10).
