PURPOSE: In a car crash, a high pressure gas is supplied to rotate an operation shaft to wind belt to a spool fast to prevent damage to a driver or passenger. CONSTITUTION: A pretensioner for an automobile comprises a return spring housing(10), a housing(30), a clutch(40), a pinion(60), a retainer(70), a gas generating member(80), and a frame(90). A return spring(12) to wind a belt is installed in the return housing, and a coupling bush(20) is connected to one end of the return spring housing. The housing is connected to the return spring housing, and a penetrating hole to insert the coupling bush is formed in the center. An operation chamber(36) is formed in the housing. The gas generating member supplies a gas to the operation chamber by an electrical signal from a controller.
