PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical path converting variable optical attenuator. SOLUTION: The optical path converting variable optical attenuator includes a transmission optical fiber 72 which an optical signal is emitted through the transmission core 71, a reception optical fiber 75 which the optical signal emitted from the transmission optical fiber 72 is made incident through the reception core 76, and a mirror 73 which is provided with a reflection face 74 not to made the optical signal emitted through the transmission core 72 of the transmission optical fiber incident on the reception core 76 of the reception optical fiber 75 and is moved in an arbitrary moving direction to make only a part of the optical signal from the transmission optical fiber 72 is incident on the reception optical fiber 75 and thus attenuates the optical signal. When the optical signal of the transmission optical fiber 72 is emitted to the reception optical fiber 75, the emitted optical signal is reflected to a path independent of the path of the transmission and reception optical fiber 75 not to change the extent of attenuation by wavelength.
