PURPOSE: A screen for a flat cathode ray tube and a manufacturing method are provided to prevent re-reflected beam by an aluminum layer on a mirror from reaching on an adjacent fluorescent layer by forming a thickness of a black matrix similar to that of the adjacent fluorescent layer. CONSTITUTION: A screen(22) is formed on an inner surface of a panel(1) and comprised of a fluorescent layer(221) and a black matrix(222). The fluorescent layer(221) emits light by the collision of electron beam(6). The black matrix(222) is made of a non-fluorescent absorptive material and formed between fluorescent layers. An aluminum layer(13) is provided on the fluorescent layer(221) to re-reflect reflected beam(6) to the fluorescent layer(221) after the reflected beam(6) collides with the fluorescent layer(221). A thickness of the black matrix(222) is thicker 0.8-1.3 times than that of the fluorescent layer(221).
