PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable designation of period of preservation with respect to stored image data, transfer and then delete the stored image data after the preservation period is passed, or delete the data without transfer. SOLUTION: When a scan original document preservation designation mode is 'memory box individual designation', a RAM7 of digital composite equipment 20 stores a memory box preservation managing table 7a for storing preservation periods which are previously set in each memory box (S5-S6 in Figure 4). When the preservation period of image data stored in each memory box has passed the preservation period, which is set in each memory box (the time and date of storage + preservation expiry period = the time and date of storage period; refer to steps S30, S32 in Figure 6) (YES in step S63 in Figure 9), the stored image data are transferred to previously set external terminal equipment and then deleted (step S65-S67), or the stored image data are deleted without being transferred (step S67).
