The invention relates to method and device for checking the teat rubber (4) of a milking cup. The aim of the invention is to provide a simple and reliable method for checking the teat rubber (4) and a device suited for carrying out the method. To this end, the invention provides that the behavior of the teat rubber is determined in the event of a differential pressure profile acting between the pulse space (8) and the pressure space and to compare this currently determined behavior with a reference behavior. The inventive device has a unit for directly checking the teat rubber behavior.
