PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disc drive that does not need to switch the firmware for horizontal or vertical attitude depending on its set attitude because of the different motion control parameters of the traverse mechanism of a pickup. SOLUTION: At an early stage of the spin up at start, the pick up 33 is moved first to the innermost then a little toward the periphery on the disc. The amount of movement of the pickup 33 is calculated in the following spin-up processing from the time information obtained first, and the amount of load due to the gravity is determined.
