A control knob for a flow control valve, e.g. a heating control valve, is connected to the valve spindle by a connecting disc which has internal splines to fit over the splined valve shaft and with outer splines onto which the knob is fitted. One set of splines, preferably the outer splines, is divided into segments, with the separate segments offset by a phase shift. The segments are fitted to the connecting disc via elastic supports. When the control knob is pushed on to the connecting disc its inner splines mesh with one or more of the segments, while the other segments are pushed radially inwards onto their elastic pads. In this way the knob position can be finely adjusted to the control indicator markings.
