PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding machine and grinding method which permits a ferrule to insert between opposite end surfaces of rotating wheels and to retract from the position between opposite end surfaces, with the ferrule held at a prescribed position surely without any motion, in order to grind both end surfaces of the ferrule with accuracy. SOLUTION: A pair of grinding wheels 36 which are placed opposite each other at a distance is rotated. A swing arm 43 which holds a ferrule with a holding mechanism 46 provided at the top of the swing arm 43, is swung with a motor around an axial line approximately parallel to an axial line of the rotating wheels 36. In such a manner, the ferrule W is fed between the opposite end surfaces of the both grinding wheels 36 and is retracted from the position between the opposite end surfaces to grind both end surfaces of the ferrule W. |
