PURPOSE: A process of decomposing lignin using only an electrochemically oxidized electronic carrier without the use of enzyme is provided. This method is environment friendly because it does not use chemicals which show extremely strong toxin to human body. CONSTITUTION: An electron carrier is oxidized by applying voltage of -200 to 800mV through an electrode. Lignin is oxidized with the oxidized electron carrier, wherein the electron carrier is selected from the group consisting of 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzo thiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid, 1-nitroso-2-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid, 2,7-diaminofluorene and p-phenylenediamine. The electrochemical decomposition process is performed in the range of pH 5 to 13.
