PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polarizing diffractive element by which a film of an optically anisotropic polymer can be made uniform by applying and polymerizing polymerizable liquid crystal monomers on a transparent substrate. SOLUTION: A substrate having projections 12 formed in a grid state on the surface is prepared as a transparent substrate material 11, and polymerizable monomers 16 are applied on the surface of the transparent substrate material partitioned by the projections 12. The polymerizable liquid crystal monomers can be applied to uniform thickness by the projections 12. The transparent substrate material can be cut along the center lines of the projections 12 without giving adverse influences on the optically anisotropic film formed by polymerizing the polymerizable liquid crystal monomers so as to cut out individual polarizing diffractive element. The obtained polarizing diffractive element 1 has the optically anisotropic film with uniform thickness and the periphery of the film is protected by the frame part formed by bisecting the projection 12. |
