PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet holding device capable of reducing the whole of an apparatus by dispensing with a discharged paper tray and surely holding a discharged paper sheet in discharging a paper sheet from the body, and continuously discharging by one or more paper sheets each and holding the discharged paper sheets. SOLUTION: Paper sheets are repeatedly held and released in a designated timing by using a first depressing mechanism 4 provided above a paper carrying passage or on the side of the paper carrying passage, a second depressing mechanism 5 provided on the side of the paper carrying passage, a paper sheet clamping member 6 and a spring member 7, whereby the first depressing mechanism 4 or the second depressing mechanism 5 is moved to a position not to obstruct carrying of a paper sheet during the paper discharge operation while holding the discharged paper sheet.
