The thermoplastic absorptive material used in a flat, coextruded, multilayer sheet material suitable for ink jet printing also contains 5-50 wt.% of a water-insoluble, crosslinked polymeric super absorber which can absorb aqueous fluids with swelling. A flat medium suitable for ink jet printing, with an absorption layer and a carrier layer, both made of polymeric thermoplastic material and processed as multilayer film by coextrusion in a single operation, in which the thermoplastic absorptive material also contains 5-50 wt% of a water-insoluble, crosslinked polymeric super absorber which can absorb aqueous fluids with swelling. An Independent claim is also included for combination film in which the flat medium described above is laminated onto a base sheet consisting of paper, cardboard, non-woven fabric or textile material.
