PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable discharge lamp lighting device which can identify automatically by itself a discharge lamp type properly, then operates properly preheating control and lighting control based on an identified result of the discharge lamp, and share a plurality of different types of discharge lamps. SOLUTION: When a discharge lamp LA is lit with at least shifting from preheating mode, starting mode to lighting mode sequentially, a lamp voltage detecting means LVD detecting an electrical characteristics, for example, lamp voltage after lighting the discharge lamp LA in the starting mode and a discharge lamp identifying means DCM identifying a type of the discharge lamp LA based on the detecting result of the lamp voltage detecting means LVD, are provided. |
