PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for recovering monomer from acrylic resin scrap or the like which have a heating chamber easy to maintain and high processing efficiency. SOLUTION: The method for recovering monomer gases by retorting acrylic resin in the heating chamber leading to thermal decomposition is characterized by retorting while firmly pressing the acrylic resin against the heated inner wall of the heating chamber. The device for recovering monomer, comprising the heating chamber equipped with a charge hole of the acrylic resin, a discharge hole of monomer vapor generating from the thermally decomposed acrylic resin and heating means to heat at least part of its inner wall as well as a deactivating means to keep the inside of the heating chamber substantially free of oxygen is characterized by having a pressing means to firmly press the acrylic resin against the heated inner wall of the heating chamber.
