<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an engaging element applied to a planetary gear train for an automatic transmission which reduces a manufacturing cost by its simple structure and enhances the efficiency of power transmission. SOLUTION: In a conical friction element (the engaging element) for an automatic transmission which obtains a plurality of transmission gear ratios by using the planetary gear train and engaging elements such as a clutch and a brake, helical splines 70a and 80a are provide with helix angles (lead) in the direction in which thrust (pressing force) acting in the direction of press- contacting conical friction faces 98a and 80c is applied by abrasion torque working between the conical friction faces 98a and 80c of the conical abrasion element 80 and a second corn ring 98 when driven from the input shaft side. The conical friction element 80 can be pressed in the direction in which the conical friction faces 98a and 80c are press-pushed from a hydraulic piston 82 mounted on a case 70. When driven from the input shaft side, the conical friction element 80 can be pressed from the helical splines 70a and 80a in addition to the hydraulic piston 82.</p> |
