System (14) for automatic updating of product data (2) in an electronic catalogue has means for transfer of product data to the system; means (11) for data checking and correction; means (12) for protocol-controlled release of data; means for controlling the preceding steps in a single automated process using protocol data, especially the last loaded product data as archive and comparison data and; means for releasing catalogue data for incorporation after a positive decision by an operator. An Independent claim is made for a method in which electronic catalogue data is updated.
