PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control fluctuation of braking force caused by shaking in the thrust direction in a rotor braking mechanism for a spinning reel having a moving direction different from the thrust direction. SOLUTION: The rotor braking mechanism 54 for a spinning reel is a mechanism for braking a rotor 3 when a bail arm 17 is in a fishing line open position and is equipped with a toggle spring mechanism 50, a movable member 51, a braking member 65 and a thrust spring 68. The toggle spring mechanism 50 separately energizes the bail arm in two positions. The movable member is attached to the rotor in such a way that the movable member is freely transferred to a fist position corresponding to the fishing line winding position and to a second position corresponding to the fishing line open position by linking to the bail arm. When the movable member is in the second position, the rear end part of the movable member is projected toward the front of a reel main body. The braking member is installed at the front of the reel main body and has a braking face 65a to be thrust in the direction crossing the movement direction by the rear end part of the movable member moved to the second position. The thrust spring energizes the movable member toward the braking face.
