PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk player in which the erroneous erasure of the information recorded on the disk is prevented even when high speed searching and high speed starting are carried out while complying with requirements for making the device smaller and the power consumption lower. SOLUTION: During searching operation, the present position of a pickup 1 and the number of rotation of a disk 30 are detected, and the linear speed of the disk 30 on the present position of the pickup 1 is calculated. Then the laser beam power given to the disk is controlled based on this linear speed.
