PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always realize a stable focus jump in an optical disk reproducing apparatus performing a focus servo, by generating a focus error signal on the basis of an output signal of an optical pickup 2, in order to reproduce signals from an optical disk 1 having two recording layers 11 and 12. SOLUTION: The optical disk reproducing apparatus includes a focus search signal generating circuit 72, an S-shaped wave pattern detecting circuit 71 which detects an S-shaped wave pattern of the focus error signal for each recording layer, a kick/brake pulse generating circuit 73 which generates a kick pulse and a brake pulse for a focus jump, an applied distance measuring part 81 which measures an applied distance of the kick pulse and the brake pulse by the detected two S-shaped wave patterns, and an amplitude calculation part 82 which calculates amplitudes of the kick pulse and the brake pulse at the time of performing the focus jump by the measured applied distances of the kick pulse and the brake pulse.
