Oscillation velocity is held essentially constant between successive limiting positions; and/or rotary speed (12, 13) of the rollers is reduced at these positions. An Independent claim is included for corresponding equipment. The Nitschel (axially-rubbing) rollers have independent, separately-controlled rotary- and axial drives. Preferred features: Velocity is held precisely constant between successive end positions. This causes relative roller positions to follow a triangular pattern. In one variant, the linear drive and/or the rotary drive are hydraulic.
