EQUIPMENT FOR MANUFACTURING BUTT WELDED STEEL SHEET OR STEEL STRIP AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide equipment which enables stable continuous welding in subjecting a plurality of steel sheets or steel strips varying in thickness, strength, sectional area or varying in properties to butt-welding by a laser beam at their ends, and to provide a method for the same. SOLUTION: The equipment is provided with a welding roller 3 which is longer in its roll trunk length than the overall width of the plurality of steel sheets or steel strips 1 and 2 and is installed so as to incline relative to the direction perpendicular to their progression and pressing devices 7 and 7 between which a laser beam welding machine 9 is provided on the circumference of the welding roller and to press the steel sheets or steel strips to be welded from an upper side before and behind the laser beam welding machine 9 above the welding roller 3. The equipment is also provided with side guides 4 and 5 which guide a edge of a side, on which a force to press the steel sheets or steel strips in the direction perpendicular to their progression acts, at the opposite side of the butt seam area 6 of the steel sheets or steel strips. The equipment includes a heater 10 for subjecting the butt seam area 6 to heat treatment behind the laser beam welding machine 9.
