Method in which the test vehicle has a deformable element mounted between its front wheels. The vehicle (1) is driven into the obstacle (2) so that only an outer side of the front impacts with the obstacle, the side being adjacent to the deformable object. The mass of the obstacle is a multiple of the vehicle weight. The invention also relates to a corresponding arrangement for carrying out the method where the vehicle and obstacle are placed in a test area where the vehicle has a sufficient approach and a sufficient continuation length.
