1379990 Mercury removal from aqueous liquids BAYER AG 2 March 1972 [3 March 1971] 9738/72 Heading C1A Mercury is recovered from aqueous liquids by treating with chlorine or chloride ions to form a soluble mercury-chloro complex and adsorbing this on an anion exchanger (e.g. of cross-linked polystyrene or polyacrylate) containing a secondary or tertiary alkyl amine or amine oxide exchanger group; the alkyl radical(s) having 1 to 3 carbon atoms. The adsorbed mercury-chloro complex is eluted with an aqueous solution containing: (a) cyanide, cyanate, thiocyanate or chloride ions and an inorganic base, or (b) a sulphite or bisulphite. The process may be used for mercury pollution control and effecting economies in chemical processes using mercury. |
