PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which a cable used to apply a driving voltage on a light source is prevented from dropping from a groove formed in the sidewall of a housing member. SOLUTION: The housing member, constituting the backlight unit, has a recessed part in the sidewall where the cable to apply the driving voltage on the light source is to be inserted. The cross section of the recessed part, along a plane perpendicular to the extending direction of the recessed part, has the following properties: a narrower angleθ2 of the angles made by at least one of the two side lines in the depth direction of the recessed part and by the line perpendicular to the bottom line of the housing member, and the narrower angleθ1 of angles made by the line in the depth direction of the sidewall opposing at least one of the two side lines, in the depth direction of the recessed part and by the line perpendicular to the bottom of the housing member are controlled, so thatθ2 is sufficient inclination angle to prevent dropping of the cable and the relationθ1>=θ2 is satisfied.
