PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inlet system of a V-type four stroke engine for an outboard motor capable of varying inlet characteristics according to the operation state of the engine without enlarging an engine hood. SOLUTION: The four stroke engine for the outboard motor has a crank shaft vertically installed, the heads of left and right banks 26L, 26R arranged backward and covered with the engine hood 33. A suction inlet 61 continuing to a throttle body 54 is installed in the top of an inlet distribution box 60 flat in the back and forth direction arranged between the left and right banks 26L, 26R and the rear wall of the engine hood 33, the inside of the inlet distribution box 60 is divided into vertically extending first and second distribution chambers 63L, 63R communicating with the suction inlet 61 with a partition wall 64, an on - off valve 75 communicating or shutting off the first distribution chamber 63L and the second distribution chamber 63R is installed in the partition wall 64, and inlet ports 57L, 57R of the left and right banks 26L, 26R are let to communicate with the first and second distribution chambers 63L, 63R. |
