PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire tread which exhibits improved characteristics. SOLUTION: The composition comprises a low gel content, high-molecular weight isoolefin/multiolefin copolymer having a content of the multiolefin of more than 2.5 mol%, a molecular weight Mw of more than 240 kg/mol, and a gel content of less than 1.2 wt.%, or a low gel content, high-molecular weight halogenated isoolefin/multiolefin copolymer having a content of the multiolefin of more than 2.5 mol%, a molecular weight Mw of more than 240 kg/mol, and a gel content of less than 1.2 wt.%, or a mixture of the above nonhalogenated isoolefin multiolefin copolymer with the above halogenated isoolefin multiolefin copolymer.
