PURPOSE: A display device and a method of controlling the display device are provided to set a display area and adjust the size of the display area without installing additional software. CONSTITUTION: A display device having a display unit(30) for displaying images based on video signals includes a setting unit(3) and a controller(13). The setting unit sets an arbitrary area within an image of the display unit and selects a display state with respect to the set area. The controller generates a set signal according to the selection of the display state of the setting unit to display the set area on the display unit. The setting unit has an area setting part(5) for selecting the set area and a size adjustment part(7) for adjusting the size of the set area.
