The water tank is used for a transverse flow cooling radiator with main collector tank. It has a compensation chamber with excess pressure valve. Segregation of the air in the cooling system is ensured so that on opening of excess pressure valve at first only air will emerge. Between the main collection chamber (4) and the compensation chamber (3) is an intermediate chamber (2) used for air separation. This intermediate chamber is separated from the main collection chamber (4) by a vertical separation wall (5) with restrictor opening (6) arranged at high level.
