PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information reproducer capable of detecting the fact there is an uncorrectable error in input data in its early stages. SOLUTION: The information reproducer is provided with an error correcting means which successively performs a first error correction processing for correcting the horizontal error of an input data block and a second error correction processing for correcting the vertical error of the data block in order to correct an error in the data block. The error correcting means is constituted to generate a first signal whenever a correction impossible code word is detected during performing the first error correction processing. The information reproducer is also characterized by providing a counting means for counting the first signal, a comparing means for comparing the count value of the counting means with a prescribed value and outputting a second signal when the count value becomes the prescribed value and a judging means for judging that an error which can not be corrected by the error correcting means, exists in the data block in response to the second signal and for transmitting the third signal to an external part.
