PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To render Nd2O3 contained in alloy magnet powder harmless and to protect a magnet product manufactured by the use of the alloy magnet powder against cracking or chipping. SOLUTION: This alloy magnet powder is obtained through a method where an Nd-Fe-B alloy is melted under vacuum and very quickly cooled down, the solidified alloy is ground into powder, and the alloy magnet powder contains Nd2O3 as an Nd oxide which is produced unavoidably generated in a process of melting and quenching the alloy. Pure water of 0.1 to 15 parts is added to the alloy magnet powder of 100 parts and mixed together. The alloy magnet powder containing a prescribed amount of water is introduced into a vessel, heated at a prescribed temperature for a prescribed time in an atmosphere of inert gas to be dried, and then cooled down to a room temperature. By this processing, Nd2O3 contained in the alloy magnet powder is turned into hydroxide such as Nd(OH)3 by chemical reaction. |
