PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and uniformly impart shape stability such as shrink resistance, crease resistance and fluff resistance, to a fabric prepared from a cellulose fiber and from the fabric without generating free formaldehyde in a treating process. SOLUTION: A regenerated cellulose fiber or a modified cellulose fiber is treated by including a crosslinking agent to a dope or bringing the one or more monofilaments just after spun into contact with the crosslinking agent in a spinning process of the regenerated cellulose fiber or the modified cellulose fiber. A divinyl monomer such as N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide, a trivinyl monomer such as 1,3,5-triacryloylhexahydro-s-triazine or a compound having a polyfunctional group such as a monochlorotriazine compound is used as the crosslinking agent.
