PURPOSE: A hypoglycemic agent composition containing sericin peptide in a cocoon as an effective ingredient is provided. It does not need expensive desalting equipment for removing table salt produced in its manufacturing process, thereby reducing the manufacturing cost. CONSTITUTION: A cocoon is ground, 20L water is added to 1kg ground cocoon and 100 to 200g NaOH and 50 to 150g KOH are added thereto and then hydrolyzed at 80 to 120deg.C for 5 to 15hr. The hydrolysate is separated with a decanter or filter press to remove a water insoluble component containing fibroin, neutralized and concentrated, followed by drying to produce a hypoglycemic agent containing sericin peptide. The sericin peptide has a molecular weight of 5,000 to 15,000Da.
