Method and device for actuating a door assembly in response to the presence of persons

The method is used to control door entry systems in dependence on the presence of objects/persons. The area of the entry system (1) is continuously monitored by at least one video camera (8). The movement of objects/people in the space being monitored is detected by the video camera and/or suitable sensors. The video image is analysed to determine whether it is an image of an object/person authorised to use the entry system or not. If so the location and/or direction of movement and speed are determined. The entry system is controlled in dependence on the determined location, direction of movement and speed of the object or person. Preferably the video camera may store an image of the space when empty as a reference image. This image may be updated.
