An electronic unit including a transmitting (9) and receiving device (10) for electromagnetic waves at a frequency of less than 3 GHz, is connected to a coupling device (5) which guides the transmission signals to the measuring section and the reflected signals back to the electronic unit. A high frequency transformer (15,16,17,18) such as a differential transformer is connected to the transmitting and receiving device and the coupling device. An Independent claim is included for a method of transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves via a single antenna.
