A support component (11) is fixed on the piece to be laid (12), with the aid of which the piece is placed manually into position abutting on an already laid piece. The piece with its front edge (15) is then brought into the desired exact arrangement in relation to the already laid piece. A thrust effect is exerted on the support component for production of close contact between the front edge of the piece being laid and with the rear edge of the already laid piece. The support component firmly engages on the rear edge (14) of the piece. The firm engagement is undertaken in a groove (20) or under a tongue (19) of the piece.
