PURPOSE:To allow sure tracking even if the acceleration of an image plane of a lens of short focal length, etc., is relatively large and to improve focusing accuracy by calculating the correction rate of tracking by taking the acceleration of the image plane into consideration as well at the time of tracking a moving object. CONSTITUTION:A focus detecting means 101c which repeatedly calculates the defocusing quantity corresponding to the difference between the imaging plane of a photographing lens and the desired imaging plane and an acceleration information calculating means 100d which calculates the information relating to the acceleration of the movement of the image plane with respect to the desired focus plane according to the movement of the subject are provided. The correction rate of the tracking for the purpose of correcting the fluctuation component of the defocusing quantity generated by the movement of the subject is calculated by a tracking correction rate calculating means 100e in accordance with the defocusing quantity and the information on the acceleration. The focusing accuracy to the moving object is additionally improved in this way. |
