ADMIXTURE FOR ZERO-BLEED MIXTURES, GROUTS, AND CEMENTS

The present invention provides a process and product for introducing and dispersing a biopolymer such as Welan gum throughout a liquid cemental mixture. A carrier liquid of a superplasticizer high-range water reducer is used to suspend and maintain the biopolymer within a stericly hindered lattice structure and which maintains the biopolymer in a hydration-free state. Upon introduction into the aqueous cement-containing mixture, the carrier liquid uniformly distributes the unhydrated biopolymer. Upon continued mixing action of the slurry, the stericly hindered structure of the carrier liquid is physically degraded by the abrasive mixing action, thereby releasing the unhydrated biopolymer. Upon release the highly dipersed biopolymer subsequently hydrates. The thorough dispersion of the biopolymer, prior to hydration, provides an improved end product which cures with zero-bleed water.
