PURPOSE: A method for controlling air/fuel ratio according to starting condition of a vehicle engine is provided to improve the engine initial starting performance and the restarting performance at the same time. CONSTITUTION: In a vehicle having an ECU, the ECU detects the coolant temperature, decides the restarting by comparing the coolant temperature at starting with the coolant temperature stored in a memory when a starting key is on 'off' state, and calculating a fuel amount for cranking according to the detected coolant temperature. If the fuel amount control is performed according to the detected fuel amount for cranking, the ECU decides the completion of the engine starting by detecting an engine RPM, and decreases the fuel amount when the cranking time is maintained with exceeding the fuel decrease decision time. When the engine starting is failed and an engine stall is generated due to the cranking, the ECU compensates the fuel amount for cracking by applying the decreased amount of fuel caused by the predetermined engine stall and stores the fuel amount in a memory. At cracking later, the fuel amount stored in the memory is applied.
