PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer having simple constitution, capable of confirming the electrical connection state of a connector and preventing the printing failure caused by electrical connection failure or the noise of a data signal. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer A is equipped with an ink jet head 1 having an ink discharging head main body, a wiring board 30 for driving the head main body, and the connector 6 connected to the wiring board 3 and constituted so that the ink jet head 1 can be electrically connected to the apparatus main body 10 through the connector 6. The electrical connection state of the connector 6 can be detected by the connection of the terminals positioned on both sides of the connector 6 and the terminal on the side of the apparatus main body 10. Input data and output data are respectively alloted to the terminals on both sides of the connector 6 for the purpose of the cascade connection of a drive unit and compared with each other to detect the signal state from the connector.
