PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus wherein an electric charge or an ion molecular reaction for the ionization of molecules with reference to the analysis of the molecules such as a mass spectrometry is minimized or eliminated. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus for the mass spectrometry are provided in such a way that a helium droplet is used properly as a medium for an ionization part and that protons are first captured and evaporated by the helium droplet so as to be cooled to 0.4 K. Neutral molecules are captured/ protonated by the protonated helium droplet, the droplet acts as a temperature bath, and formed protonated molecules are cooled rapidly. Remaining liquid helium is removed, and the proponated molecules which are held stably are detected by a mass spectrometer. The apparatus comprises (1) a helium cluster or a droplet source, (2) a proton source which introduces the protons to the droplet, (3) an AP source which forms a decompressed and low-pressure flow, (4) a capture cell element which protonates compound molecules at a low temperature, (5) a desolvating region for remaining helium removal and (6) the mass spectrometer and a detector.
