PURPOSE: A method for confirming the state of a subscriber channel is provided to process and report the state of a subscriber channel in an IGA(Internet Gateway Access) system in real time at the same time with call processing and to change the state of the subscriber channel into an idle state so that another subscriber can use the subscriber channel. CONSTITUTION: If a call seizure request is generated from a subscriber, an exchange transmits the call seizure request to a channel state confirmation part(S31). The channel state confirmation part selects a subscriber board managing the subscriber channel corresponding to the call(S32) and forwards the call seizure request for the subscriber channel to the selected subscriber board(S33). After seizing the call for the subscriber channel, the subscriber board gives a command to its internal modem, initializes the subscriber channel and activates the modem(S34). If the subscriber board reports the present state of the subscriber channel to the channel state confirmation part, the channel state confirmation part reports it to the exchange(S35). The exchange changes the present state of the subscriber channel into a busy state(S36). Afterwards, if a call release request is generated(S37), the subscriber board initializes the subscriber channel and reports the present state of the subscriber channel to the channel state confirmation part. If the channel state confirmation part reports it to the exchange(S38), the exchange changes the present state of the subscriber channel into an idle state(S39).
