PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly control the group-transfer polymerization of anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic ester, and to reduce the amount of a catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polymer of theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic ester is characterized in that the method uses three components of (A) a group transfer polymerization initiator (I), (B) a Lewis acid (II) and (C) a silylation agent (III) as essential components, and satisfies one of the following conditions: (a) the molar ratio of the silylation agent (III) to the monomer of theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic ester is <1×10-3; (b) the molar ratio of the silylation agent (III) to the group transfer polymerization initiator (I) is <0.05; and (c) the molar ratio of the silylation agent (III) to the Lewis acid (II) is <0.1.
