PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can read image data and print out an image of the image data without being affected by rising of an HDD when transferring and storing the image data to the HDD via an image memory. SOLUTION: After a lapse of a preparation period of a scanner such as a sensor 303 and an image memory 86 at application of power, the scanner reads an original before the preparation period of the HDD 88 elapses and the image memory 86 stores the image data. When the preparation period of the HDD 88 does not elapse even if the image memory 86 completes the storage of the image data, the scanner stops the reading of the original and becomes a standby sate. When the HDD 88 becomes a steady-state, the image data stored in the image memory 86 are transferred to the HDD 88 to produce an idle area in the image memory 86. Thus, the scanner restarts reading of the original and the image memory 86 stores the image data.
