PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost low-noise sliding member capable of forming with high precision. SOLUTION: The sliding member 5 to be slidedly guided to the outside peripheral surface of a shaft is manufactured by: adding 10-50 vol.% of thermosetting resin to metal powder composed essentially of copper powder, iron powder or mixed powder thereof; sintering the resultant mixture at a temperature not lower than the sintering temperature of the meal powder; and further shaping the resultant sintered compact to regulate its porosity to 5-40 vol.%.
