PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of melting treatment for burned ash, which achieves the same level of 'volume reduction' and 'detoxification' as in a conventional method, but at a considerably lower operating cost than in a conventional method. SOLUTION: In melting treatment of burned ash, an existing electric furnace is utilized. Unshaped refractory containing Cr is sprayed onto an ordinarily used refractory lining of the electric furnace, followed by charging burned ash. The thickness of layer formed by blowing the Cr containing unshaped refractory, should be in the range of 15 to 50 mm.
